Travel The Globe Using Your Best Companion – An Ogio Backpack
Nobody knows for sure when the first backpack was hoisted on a primitive man’s shoulders and filled with the treasures he found most difficult to leave behind on the trail. What we do know is that since those early days, some version of the backpack—also known as the packsack, rucksack or knapsack—has been in use. Generally made of animal skin itself, the backpacks, worn by most members of the hunting party, would be filled with various portions of the killed animal.
These backpacks were made of the skin of the same animal they had hunted in most cases. One can only imagine that these primitive backpacks, sewn together with the intestines of the same animal whose skin made up the fabric, were somewhat less comfortable than more modern offerings such as Ogio backpacks.
From that time onward the humble backpack has evolved steadily, with much of that evolution taking place in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s when hippies turned to backpacking as a means of getting around while getting back to nature. The popularity of backpacks has risen and fallen over the decades; all the while the packs themselves have continued to steadily evolve, with much of that evolution happening in the ‘60s and ‘70s. It was then that the hippies took to backpacking as a means of getting back to nature and also as a means of containing their belongings as they hitchhiked across the country.
Backpacking’s popularity remains strong today, with thousands of naturalists taking to the woods, meadows and mountains each year in search of a simpler, quieter lifestyle. Today’s backpacks, of course, are a far cry from the aluminum and canvas packs of yesterday. Modern backpacks are a far cry from the canvas and aluminum brutes of yesteryear, however.
The design concepts used in modern backpacks also bear little resemblance to those old packs used by earlier generations.The smooth shapes and sophisticated styling make today’s packs not on workhorses, but fashion statements. These same sorts of fashion advances may be found in Ogio Bags and Ogio Golf Bags. Though most every model, including street backpacks all the way to rugged mountain gear, is built to perform and last for a lifetime, they also meet the needs of fashion loving hikers, cyclists and students.
